 Chemical Peeling

Chemical peeling is a popular cosmetic treatment used to improve the appearance of the skin by exfoliating its outer layers. It involves applying a chemical solution to the skin, which causes the top layers to peel off, revealing smoother, fresher skin underneath. The procedure can be used to treat various skin concerns, such as acne scars, hyperpigmentation, fine lines, and sun damage.

There are three main types of chemical peels:

  • Superficial Peels: These use mild acids, like alpha-hydroxy acids (AHAs), to exfoliate the outermost layer of skin. They are the gentlest type of chemical peel and are often used to treat minor skin issues, such as dullness or slight discoloration. The recovery time is minimal, and patients can usually return to their daily activities immediately.

  • Medium Peels: Medium peels use stronger acids, like trichloroacetic acid (TCA), to penetrate deeper into the skin. These peels are effective for treating more significant issues, such as acne scars, moderate sun damage, or fine wrinkles. Recovery time is longer than with superficial peels, with redness and peeling typically lasting a few days to a week.

  • Deep Peels: Deep chemical peels use powerful acids, like phenol, to target the deeper layers of the skin. These peels can treat severe skin damage, such as deep wrinkles or sun damage. They often require sedation or local anesthesia and have a longer recovery time, with the skin taking several weeks to fully heal.
